Gavilan Golf Course is a Public 9 hole golf course located in Gilroy, California.
Gavilan Golf Course first opened for play in 1965.
This 9-hole exective course in Gilroy takes its name from the Gavilan Mountains which form the backdrop to nearly every hole. Though the Gavilans connect to the coastal mountains beyond, Gavilan Golf Course itself is tucked into a relatvely flat expanse abutting Gavilan College. This course, which was built on the grounds of Gavilan Joint Community College, is located in cattle country amongst numerous trees and wildlife. There are five par 3's and four par 4's in the design. The par 4's are very narrow and the greens are small and tricky. The finishing hole, a 150-yard, par 3, is difficult, requiring a carry over a ravine. The course is great for beginners.
Par for the course is 62 if you do a double loop 18 on this short 9 hole layout. From the back tees the course plays to 3751 yards for 18 holes. From the forward tees the course measures 3597 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 12, a par-4 that plays to 376 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 8, a par-3 that plays to 92 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 14, a 188 yard par-3 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Gavilan Golf Course is # 1, a 118 yard par-3.

A 9 hole beat-to-crap muni at the local junior college. You can play it twice for a a discounted 18 hole rate. Not sure you'd want to play it twice. They've stopped making even a minimal effort to keep it up. Greens are a muddy, blotchy mess. Bunkers haven't seen any sand in years. The range like a hurricane blew through (though you can go down the hill and hit off the grass. Good for newbies or kids, or maybe for a quick 9 at the $5 twilight rate.
